Brought to us by the team at TAKOI and just over a mile away\, HiO exists on an acre of cultivated land in Core City\, Detroit and functions as an ongoing conversation between farmer and chef. Each season is planned with Takoi and Spiedo in mind\, creating a close loop\, sustainable food system from seed to plate. This symbiotic relationship allows for product at its peak; it’s not unusual for a harvest to be done in the moment as the kitchen needs. In addition to growing for Takoi and Spiedo\, you’ll find HiO fruits\, flowers\, and vegetables at other area restaurants\, and the occasional pop-up farm stand. \nFor this special evening\, Chef Brad Greenhill will prepare a family-style farm-to-table meal featuring produce directly from the land you’ll be dining on. In addition\, we’ll be joined by Dave Bos of BOS Wine; a seasoned biodynamic farmer\, consultant\, and winemaker with deep roots in the wine industry. This special dinner will celebrate the conclusion of International Women’s History Month and feature a 5-course meal by Chef Kate Williams (Lady of the House)\, with pairings by Paulina Schemanski (Mabel Gray) and Mary Davis (TAKOI). \nAfter the original Lady of the House location closed in 2021\, the community was sure it wasn’t the last they’d heard of beloved Chef Kate Williams. The critically acclaimed restaurant was named a James Beard Awards semifinalist for Best New Restaurant in 2018 and the following year Williams’s name appeared on the James Beard Awards’ semifinalist list for Best Chef: Great Lakes. Lady of the House reopened in 2024 in a new location on Grand River Ave. in Detroit’s Core City neighborhood\, bringing back some of the restaurant’s long-missed greatest hits. \nPaulina Schemanski is the General Manager and Sommelier at Mabel Gray. She recently started the Mabel Gray Champagne Society in 2023. \nMary Davis is the General Manager and Wine Curator at TAKOI in Detroit.
