DESCRIPTION:<< All Events\n \nConcert of Colors 2025\n\n  \nThe Concert of Colors returns this summer for its 34th annual free global music festival in the heart of Detroit and WDET is proud to be an official media partner. The Concert of Colors is one of the nation’s longest-running\, largest\, free and global music festivals featuring music from around the world at its best. \nThe Concert of Colors was established by Ismael Ahmed (host of WDET’s This Island Earth) and New Detroit in 1993 as a one-day event at Chene Park on Detroit’s riverfront. The inaugural event drew a modest crowd to Chene Park\, but by 1999\, some 10\,000 music lovers were coming out each year. The festival expanded to three days in 2001\, when it was part of the official festivities for Detroit’s 300th birthday\, drawing an audience of 100\,000. In 2019\, the concert expanded to nine days. Come celebrate Detroit Tejano music from 1-8 pm on Saturday\, June 28 in Mexicantown! \nWe will be celebrating Michigan’s only historical marker dedicated to the pioneers of Detroit Tejano music as well as feature different styles of Latin music. Come enjoy live music\, dancing and wonderful food. \nTejano music emerged in the mid-19th century along the Texas-Mexico border\, as different musical styles and traditions mixed.  Key instruments include the button accordion\, bajo sexto\, drums\, and other instruments borrowed from mariachi\, norteño\, and conjunto music. Tejano encompasses a wide range of styles\, including corridos (ballads)\, conjuntos (ensembles)\, rancheras (rural-life songs)\, and cumbias (rhythmic dance songs). This June\, experience Vibes with the Tribes—Michigan’s premier Native Music & Cultural Festival—featuring TRAVIS THOMPSON and a powerful celebration of Indigenous music and art. This show will take place Saturday\, June 7th at the Russell Industrial Center\, beginning at 2 PM and admission is free and open to all! \n Experience high-energy hip-hop and honest storytelling from one of today’s most compelling young voices: \nTravis Thompson is a young rapper from Burien\, WA\, a Seattle suburb just 10 minutes outside of the city. A skater kid raised by A Navajo father and white mother- from one of the most diverse school districts in the nation- Travis brings a refreshing blend of perspective and authenticity to the music of today.   Thompson’s playful sound is guided by rhymes that combine evocative description and candid emotion. Travis began releasing singles & attention-grabbing visuals which quickly would turn into a devoted fanbase. After being featured on Macklemore’s 2017 song “Corner Store\,” he made his major-label debut with the 2019 EP Runaways\, which he followed the same year with the album Reckless Endangerment. Join us for a night of spooks and scares\, and wear your best costume to be featured on stage as best dressed! We will be selling limited edition prints of our show poster and t-shirt designed by WDET’s Conor Anderson and featuring Tarot readings by Moon Club (CultureShift’s Amanda Le Claire and Detroit Artist Renee Willoughby). \n\nDoors at 7PM\, show at 8PM.\nTickets are $20 and will directly support WDET.\nThis is a 21+ event.
