Michigan Muslims Urged To Take Precautions After Alleged ISIS Threat
An anonymous Internet post claims trained fighters are ready to attack in 15 U.S. states, including Michigan.
A Metro Detroit organization is advising Muslims in the region to take precautions after an Internet message, purportedly from the Islamic State terrorist group, threatened attacks in Michigan.
Recently the Islamic State group, or ISIS, claimed responsibility for a shooting at a cartoon contest near Dallas which featured images of the Prophet Mohammad.
Now an anonymous internet posting says the shooting was carried out by trained fighters and that more terrorists are stationed in 15 U.S. states including Michigan.
Experts say ISIS has a long history of claiming involvement in attacks it did not organize.
But members of the Michigan branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations says the threat is disturbing, whether it is merely a prank or some form of psychological warfare.
The Council is encouraging Shia Muslims – a group targeted by ISIS – to increase security during prayer services.
Officials with the FBI say they are aware of the internet posting.
