Senate Strips Virgil Smith of Committee Assignments
Michigan Public Radio’s Rick Pluta says Detroit Democrat can still vote while facing felonies.
State Senator Virgil Smith is out of jail for now, but his political future is unclear. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged him with assaulting his ex-wife and shooting at her car outside his home Sunday morning. He was arraigned Tuesday and paid $2500 to get out of police custody. Michigan Public Radio’s Rick Pluta tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller Senate leaders–Democrats and Republicans–didn’t wait long to sanction Smith after he was charged.
