Three-Day ‘Reclaiming Vacant Land Conference’ Coming to Detroit This Week
More than 1,000 people are coming to Detroit this week to learn how to effectively repurpose vacant land.
More than 1,000 people will fill Detroit this week to learn about repurposing land that is vacant. The Flint-based Center for Community Progress is hosting a national three-day conference designed to teach neighborhoods how to manage empty lots. Center CEO Tamar Shapiro says attendees will participate in tours, panels and training sessions.
“People can attend sessions to learn about great things that communities around the country are doing to try tackle challenges of vacancy and abandonment, and also to get some pretty intensive training on topics from code enforcement, to land banking, to planning for reuse, to understanding how to use data…”

Shapiro says the conference is the sixth–and biggest–vacant land event the Center has organized so far. She says the conference runs from Tuesday through Thursday at Detroit’s Renaissance Center, and is open to the public.
