WDET Seeks Reporter
Reporter will produce spots, interviews, and feature reports.
WDET is looking for a reporter with two to five years of experience, who can hit the streets to cover Metro Detroit as part of an award-winning news team.
Reporter will be required to produce quick turnaround spots, compelling interviews, and in-depth, issue-oriented feature reports on a regular basis. S/he must be able to produce high-quality work under deadline pressure.
The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and interview skills, superior news judgment, and a compelling on-air presentation with a conversational and credible delivery. Reporter will contribute story ideas, and prepare stories to be distributed on multiple platforms. Good organizational and research skills needed. Experience filing for national news organizations, such as NPR, is a plus.
Strong web and social media skills required. Demonstrated knowledge of digital editing experience is necessary.
The reporter will serve as a regular fill-in anchor for WDET newscasts. S/he will participate in station fundraisers and community engagement activities.
The successful candidate must have the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies. S/he also must thrive in a diverse, creative, team-oriented atmosphere.
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree a plus — or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Familiarity with public radio journalism strongly desired.
Knowledge of all things Detroit is a plus, but not a requirement.
