State Hears Concerns Over Abuse of Prescription Meds

State of Michigan officials are looking for public comment on ways to combat abuse of prescription medications.

State officials say they want to hear stories this week from those dealing with prescription drug abuse.

Experts say the abuse of prescription medications, especially pain-killing drugs, has become a national epidemic.

Last month Governor Snyder created a Michigan Prescription Drug and Opioid Abuse Task Force to look into ways to combat the abuse.

Now the chair of the task force, Lt. Governor Calley, will hold a public hearing at the State Capitol to hear input on methods for fighting the problem and the difficulties people may experience dealing with the current prescription drug system.

The governor and legislature targeted $1.5 million in the next state budget to address prescription drug and painkiller abuse.
