Belle Isle Scott Fountain to Stay Open Two Weeks Longer This Year
Warm weather and strong attendance persuaded Belle Isle officials to delay the Scott Fountain’s seasonal closure.
The Belle Isle Scott Fountain is staying open for an extra two weeks this year. Park Manager Karis Floyd says it will be the first time the fountain has run longer than anticipated. Keeping the water on is a costly endeavor, he says.
“The chemicals, you’re looking at probably $750 a week. Manpower maybe $1,000 a week, and then just with estimates on the electrical cost and the water cost, could be in the $5,000-$10,000 range.”

Floyd says strong attendance and warm weather led the park staff to extend the fountain’s closing date. It will now end its season on September 20th.
