Ann Arbor May Ban Some Vehicle Idling
The City of Ann Arbor’s Environmental Commission is again proposing a ban on “unnecessary” vehicle idling.
The City of Ann Arbor’s Environmental Commission is again proposing a ban on commercial vehicle idling. The ban would target heavy duty trucks left running while making deliveries.
Environmental Coordinator Matthew Naud says while engines are getting cleaner, there are still plenty of them that emit dangerous particles.
“I think we’ve all had that experience where you’re walking down the sidewalk, and you know a bus is waiting there or a delivery truck is sitting there, and it smells. It’s not only something that people don’t like, it’s a public health concern,” Naud says.
He says enforcement of the ban would be left up to the City Council’s discretion. He says the commission is also looking to ban driveway sealants containing harmful chemicals that can run off into storm drains.
