GM to Add 1,200 Jobs at Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant
General Motors is looking to hire about 1,200 employees at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant.
General Motors will add about 1,200 jobs and a second shift at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant. The move will meet the forecasted demand for the five vehicle models made at the plant.
Plant Manager Gary West says hiring process should be completed by 2016.
“It’s a project and a goal we’ve been working toward for the last eight years, when we lost our second shift, was to be able to create the kind of product and enthusiasm in what we build that would drive the market to push us have to have a second shift back on,” West says.
The additional shift will increase the plant workforce to 2,800 people. The plant currently builds the Chevy Volt, Impala and Malibu, and the Cadillac ELR. Production of the Cadillac CT6 is scheduled to begin early next year.
