BIO

Chris Campbell is a broadcast personality/nationally-renowned tastemaker and host of the multi-genre electronic music program The Progressive Underground as heard on Detroit’s National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate 101.9 FM WDET and through the ALPHA music network.

As host, he has interviewed music luminaries such as funk pioneer George Clinton, rhythm and soul act Hall & Oates, techno pioneers Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, progressive soul acts such as The Foreign Exchange, Amp Fiddler, Dwele, Les Nubians, Dionne Farris,  and a bevy of globally-renowned electronic music artists.

Campbell is also a correspondent for NPR (National Public Radio) curating global underground music for national segments such as “Heavy Rotation” and “Songs We Love.”

He has also hosted events that include the Detroit International Jazz Festival, Detroit Performs LIVE for WTVS-Channel 56 Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), ChariVari Detroit Electronic Music Fest, Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s (DSO) Symphonic Fusion, and a variety of concerts, artist album releases, movie screenings and press unveilings.

Campbell is also an author and music journalist who has written for national and international publications such as Smooth Jazz News, Upscale, Soul Interviews and Examiner.

He is also a published author as his books The Essential Neo Soul and Essential Neo Soul 2.0 spotlight the modern-day progressive soul music movement and are the only publications of its kind to cover its history.
