Tax Day Comes Later This Year

D.C. holiday means taxpayers have three extra days to file returns.

If your smartphone is telling you April 15 is “Tax Day”, it’s wrong. The deadline to file income taxes normally falls on that date. But because it’s a holiday in Washington, D.C., taxpayers have until midnight April 18 to file their returns. Luis Garcia is a spokesperson for the Internal Revenue Service in Detroit. He tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller there are payment options for people who owe money. Garcia also says most Michigan residents who file will receive refunds.
