Campbell Investing in Metro Detroit
Campbell announced an effort to reduce childhood obesity and childhood hunger in Metro Detroit.
The Campbell Soup Company is bringing its Healthy Communities Program to Metro Detroit.
The initiative aims to reduce childhood hunger and obesity by providing access to affordable healthy food, increasing nutrition education, and providing urban agriculture opportunities.
Campbell’s C-E-O Denise Morrison says the program has proven successful in cities such as Norwalk, Connecticut and Camden, New Jersey.
“We’ve witnessed environmental and policy changes in our schools, behavioral changes in our children and our families, and systemic changes the city’s food system,” Morrison says.
Campbell is partnering with Roosevelt Primary School in Ferndale and Neinas Dual Language Learning Academy in Detroit.
The company is funding school gardens, mobile pantries, and nutritional cooking classes.
