Oakland County receives $600k to clean up contaminated soil.
Oakland County has received a $600,000 grant to clean up brownfield sites.
The US Environmental Protection Agency awards the funds to communities deemed underserved and economically disadvantaged.
Brad Hansen is the Business Development Representative for Oakland County. He says the grant will help clean-up sites with contaminated soil.
“You’ll have buildings such as old manufacturing that have some materials in the ground from historic use or old gas stations that weren’t regulated would have some petroleum in the ground that would need to be removed,” Hansen says.
Hansen says the sites could later be redeveloped into housing, manufacturing space, or mixed-use offices.
