The Detroit Transit Police is placing more of its officers on city buses. The department says it has added 16 transit officers to buses since January.

Lieutenant Ricky Brown says adding more officers will improve the department’s ability to target high crime areas.

“We also receive information from various sources, and other law enforcement agencies, such as Detroit Public Schools, Public Safety, Detroit Police Department things of that nature and then we determine where we are going to deploy our officers,” Brown says.

Brown says since the increasing the number of officers, bus riders have been more inclined to report incidents.
