High Court will Not Hear Kilpatrick Appeal

Ex-Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick appears out of chances to appeal corruption conviction. SCOTUS lets lower court ruling stand

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s appeal of his public corruption conviction.

Kilpatrick is serving a 28 year sentence after being convicted on two-dozen counts including bribery, extortion and racketeering.

The former Detroit Mayor appealed the convictions on grounds that the trial court gave federal agents too much leeway in presenting their case against him.

He also charged that one of his defense attorneys had a conflict of interest during the trial.

The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals refused to rehear the case last year.

Now, on the same day the nation’s High Court overturned a public corruption conviction against a former Virginia governor, it has let the decision against Kilpatrick stand without comment.

The move appears to exhaust Kilpatrick’s chances to have his conviction thrown out.
