Long Rebuild of I-75 Starts in Oakland County

MDOT starts first phase of 16-year project.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has started the first phase of a project that will last more than a decade–the reconstruction and widening of I-75 in Oakland County. MDOT began by closing one lane of southbound 75 from Square Lake Road to Coolidge Highway Monday. Spokesperson Rob Morosi tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the lane closure will last for a few weeks. Then, Morosi says M-DOT will shift all traffic onto the southbound lanes while crews work on the northbound side. He says it’ll take about two years to rebuild the pavement, install new bridges, and redesign the Square Lake Road interchange. Morosi says the entire modernization of I-75 will be done in two-year segments, stretching 18 miles between Square Lake and Eight Mile roads. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
