Minority Undergrad Increase at U of M
The number of students enrolled at the University of Michigan has increased in the past year.
The number of minority students enrolled at the University of Michigan has increased.
Minorities now make up about 12 percent of the undergraduate student body. That’s up from just over 11 percent last year.
Spokesperson Rick Fitzgerald says the increase is part of the university’s five-year plan to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“There’s a real strong correlation between academic excellence and a diverse university community,” Fitzgerald says. “We learn better from each other when we work together with people who are different from us.”
Fitzgerald says the plan also aims to increase diversity among faculty and staff as well.
