The Weather Hasn’t Been That Severe This Year

Detroit has seen its fewest severe weather events in the Doppler radar era.

2016 has been the quietest year in terms of severe storms in Metro Detroit. The National Weather Service has recorded the fewest severe weather events in southeast Michigan since the dawn of Doppler radar. Warning Coordination Meteorologist Rich Pollman tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller it’s been mostly quiet on the weather front. Two weak tornadoes were reported in Monroe and Bay counties this summer, while heavy rain in August flooded roads and basements in Detroit. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
