State Considers Penalizing Mass Protests
Michigan House ok’s bill to raise penalties for those who disrupt business or cause fear due to massive protests.
The Michigan Senate is considering a plan already approved by the House which would increase the penalties for people or organizations who engage in so-called “mass protests.”
These are demonstrations that block a given store from conducting business or cause fear or damage to those being targeted by protesters.
Some state Democrats say the proposal would unfairly limit the right to free speech.
But the sponsor of the proposal, Republican Representative Gary Glenn, tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter that recent events cry for new prohibitions against protesting.
