Dems Tout ObamaCare at Rallies as GOP Begins Repeal Efforts
Democrats hold rallies across the nation to tout ObamaCare, say millions will lose coverage if GOP repeals.
Democrats held dozens of rallies across the country over the weekend in support of the Affordable Care Act.
Rally organizers say millions of people will lose insurance coverage if ObamaCare is repealed but not immediately replaced.
The events featured stories from those who said they could have died if they had not obtained health insurance under ObamaCare.
The crowds ranged from several dozen to an estimated 10,000 who braved the cold in Macomb County to hear from the head Democrat in the US. Senate, Chuck Schumer, and Vermont’s Bernie Sanders.
Schumer says Democrats will work with Republicans to improve health care, but not if the GOP unilaterally repeals ObamaCare first.
He said, “We’re willing to look at ways of making it better. But we sure as hell ain’t gonna repeal it!”
Sanders was the headliner at the Michigan event. The Democratic senator told the crowd the GOP still does not have a definitive plan to replace the Affordable Care Act.
“We are saying to our Republican colleagues…we will not let allow you to throw up to 30 million Americans off of health insurance,” Sanders said.
Democrats argue people suffering from pre-existing health conditions and young adults now insured under their parents’ plans risk losing that coverage if the GOP repeals ObamaCare.
Senate Republicans have begun the process of repealing ObamaCare but have yet to determine a replacement for it.
