MDOT Says It Hopes to Minimize Impact of I-75 SB Closure
Residents are concerned about congestion on local roads.
The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to close southbound I-75 at the foot of the Rouge River bridge in Detroit this weekend. Crews will spend almost two years replacing all the concrete on the bridge deck. Trucks will be detoured from I-75 onto westbound I-96 and southbound I-275, while local traffic can use surface roads such as Fort Street. At a public meeting in Woodhaven, residents raised concerns about traffic jams and safety. MDOT Traffic and Safety Engineer Michael Budai tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the state will do what it can to minimize congestion on local roads. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
