Detroit Board to Challenge State Over School Closures
Detroit Public Schools Community District board to sue School Reform Office.
The board overseeing public education in Detroit says it will take action against the state agency that threatened to close 16 schools this year.
The board voted at its monthly board meeting to sue the State School Reform Office.
The board says the lawsuit will clarify whether the state can close schools based on academic data generated before the new district was created last year. District officials are also working with the Michigan Department of Education on plans to avoid school closures this year.
