GM Lansing Plant to Lay Off 650 Employees
The facility is shutting down for a month to prepare for production of the new Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave.
GM’s Delta Township Assembly Plant will shut down for a month to prepare for production of the new Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse.
The facility is phasing out production of the GMC Acadia, which has moved to Spring Hill, Tennessee.
GM’s spokesperson Erin Davis says about 650 employees will be laid off.
“So now this site will prepare to build the all-new Chevrolet Travers and Buick Enclave. So we will be in a position where we will not need a three shift operation when we are back up from our downtime,” Davis says.
Davis says the Delta Township plant expects to eventually add about 500 employees as production of new vehicles accelerates.
The plant will close at the end of its second shift Friday and re-open on June 12th.
