Auto Sales Shift Back to Forward in September
Two of Detroit’s Big 3 automakers are reporting September sales increases after a series of declines in recent months.
Automakers are reporting healthy U.S. sales during September.
Car companies had posted a series of declines in sales compared to the year before.
But the industry shifted into a higher sales gear in September.
Analysts say the increase was driven by deals offered on Labor Day weekend and some owners replacing cars that had been damaged by recent hurricanes.
General Motors was up 11.9 percent from the year before.
That includes a big jump in fleet sales.
Ford increased 8.7 percent.
Pickup truck and van sales offset a small drop in car purchases.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles went the opposite direction, reporting a 9.6 percent decline in sales.
Japanese automakers saw their sales boosted as well, led by Toyota’s 14.9 percent overall increase.
