Congresswoman Debbie Dingell Talks DACA, Budget Showdown, and Auto Show
Congresswoman pushes for bipartisan support of DACA agreement
Many members of Michigan’s congressional delegation have been in town to check out the auto show this week. But now they’re headed back to Washington to try to address some really significant problems. Lawmakers are trying to work out a deal to protect undocumented immigrants brought here as children. And they hope to avert a government shutdown by agreeing on a government budget. Those two issues are also intertwined in negotiations on Capitol Hill.
Congresswoman Debbie Dingell of Michigan’s 12th district joins Detroit Today to talk about the budget showdown, Deferred Action for Children Arrivals (DACA), NAFTA, and the auto show. She says the upcoming elections won’t deter her push to come to a long term budget agreement.
“I don’t care that it’s an election year,” says Dingell. “There are certain things that need to be done for the American people.”
She also stresses the importance of reaching an agreement over DACA, stressing the humanity of the situation over partisanship.
“This isn’t a war of words between two parties. These are real people!”
