Trump Hits Brakes on Foreign Auto Tariffs
President Trump is reportedly pushing for tariffs on foreign auto imports, ostensibly to help save U.S. jobs and as leverage in trade negotiations. But the idea that the tariffs are necessary to safeguard national security seems to be running out of gas.

The Trump Administration is weighing whether to impose high tariffs on vehicles and parts made in foreign countries on the grounds that those products hurt the U.S. economy and therefore are a national security threat.
But the plan is receiving push back from automakers, economists and even members of the Trump Administration itself.
Automotive analyst Paul Eisenstein, publisher of TheDetroitBureau.com, tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the proposal appears to be collapsing.
