The ‘Chaos’ of Scrapping the Entire Affordable Care Act

Julie Rovner of Kaiser Health News joins Detroit Today to discuss the Trump Administration’s attempt to kill the ACA.

The Affordable Care Act should be completely and entirely struck down, according to a recent court filing from the Trump administration.

In some ways, it’s consistent with Trump’s long-standing disdain for the federal health care law.

But it’s also a reversal for the president: Protections for pre-existing conditions, young adults being able to stay on their parents’ plans, the ability to sell insurance plans across state lines — these are all things Trump has said he likes in the ACA.

They’re also protocols that would be struck down along with the rest of the law if his administration gets its way.

So what gives? Is this a real about-face on policy? Or is something else afoot?

To help answer some of those questions and what this would mean for America’s healthcare system, Stephen Henderson speaks with Julie Rovner, chief Washington correspondent for Kaiser Health News. Rovner formerly covered healthcare issues for NPR and is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
