State lawmakers are back in Lansing this week after their summer break, and they have some big tasks ahead of them.

They have struggled to come up with a way to fix the roads, and budget negotiations have stalled with no end in sight. Are we any closer to a road funding plan now than we were when Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was inaugurated in January? And are we headed for a partial state government shutdown?

State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (R-Clarklake) has teased a possible road funding agreement that state leaders could reveal soon.

However, Michigan Public Radio Network State Capitol Correspondent Cheyna Roth says we haven’t seen or heard any details about what that might look like.

“This is like Christmas morning when you have no idea what’s going to happen until you open those presents,” Roth tells Stephen Henderson on Detroit Today.
