Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib: “Doing Nothing At This Point Wasn’t An Option”

Congresswoman Tlaib tells host Stephen Henderson wrongdoing cannot be denied at this point in the impeachment inquiry.

The impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump has gone public. Testimony from career diplomat, William Taylor and state department official, George Kent took center stage on Wednesday. Their accounts proved damning for the President, confirming Trump’s interest in soliciting Ukraine’s interference in the 2020 election. Will the revelations from yesterday’s hearings be enough to move political opinion?

“This is not a dictatorship.” – Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is hopeful. She joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson to recap yesterday’s hearings and the inquiry moving forward.

Tlaib, who sits on the House Oversight Committee, emphasized the honorable credentials of the hearing’s two key witnesses. She categorized their testimony as truthful and impermeable, stating, “They are putting our democracy first.”

The congresswoman insists Kent and Taylor are simply doing their due diligence as longstanding government officials.

In response to those who think impeachment has been in Tlaib’s sights since the President took office, she insists her concerns about Trump’s actions are genuine. Tlaib says it all comes down to accountability, and adds that Trump’s resistance to divest in financial commitments has placed the President and the country in a precarious position. “This is not a dictatorship,” says Tlaib, she maintains that Trump has to abide by the law of the land.

Moving forward, Tlaib is hopeful that the country has had enough of the Trump presidency. She believes her fellow colleagues in congress will be moved by constituents’ insistence on holding the President accountable. Tlaib says she is very optimistic moving forward that the hearings will uncover the truth and that her fellow senators with be moved to act accordingly.
