Detroit Evening Report: April 22, 2022: Mourners gather for funeral of Patrick Lyoya in Grand Rapids

Mourners are gathering at the funeral for Patrick Lyoya, a Black man who was fatally shot in the back of the head by a white police officer after a traffic stop in Grand Rapids. Civil rights leader the Rev. Al Sharpton delivered the eulogy at the family’s request. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump also spoke at Renaissance Church of God in Christ in Grand Rapids. An unarmed Lyoya was face down on the ground when he was shot. Michigan State Police are investigating the fatal shooting.
