More than 260K in Southeast Michigan without power after severe storm
Winds up to 70 mph have caused widespread power outages in metro Detroit.

Update 8/30/22 at 11 a.m.: DTE Energy says they expect to restore 80 percent of customers’ power affected by Monday’s storm by the end of Thursday.

DTE Energy is reporting that over 262,000 customers in metro Detroit are without power after Monday’s brief but severe thunderstorms.
According to DTE’s outage map, that’s over 11 percent of their servicing area. Strong winds, up to 70 mph in some areas, was the main factor for the widespread power outage. DTE says crew members are currently securing over 3,300 downed power lines but has not given an estimated time when power will be restored.

Several schools that were ready to start the new school year this week are closed due to power outages.
Boil advisories were issued for Novi, Commerce Township and Walled Lake after the Great Lakes Water Authority reported that multiple pumping stations lost power.
Fox 2 reports that a 14-year-old girl in Monroe died after touching a live downed power line that she thought was a stick.
