Detroit Evening Report: State of Michigan fines Stellantis for air pollution caused by Detroit Jeep plant

The State of Michigan has finalized a plan to have Stellantis address air quality on Detroit’s east side.

The automaker’s Mack Avenue plant has received official notice of several air quality violations since 2021. Neighborhood residents have complained about odors coming from the facility, where it assembles Jeep Grand Cherokees.
As Michigan Radio reports, the cause of the odors came from the paint department, which sent fumes directly outside instead of filtering it through a “regenerative thermal oxidizer.”
The Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (DEGLE) will require Stellantis to spend $283,832 on environmental projects, air quality remediation efforts and fines to the state.
