Detroit Evening Report: Former Michigan lawmaker Leslie Love announces bid for Stabenow’s US Senate seat

Former state Representative Leslie Love has announced that she’s running for Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat next year.

The Detroit Democrat made her announcement Monday.
“Michiganders deserve a proven progressive leader with a track record of delivering results,” Love said in a statement. “We want to demonstrate to people that government can work when we elect a leader from the people, by the people, who puts the people first.”

Love served in the Michigan Legislature from 2014-2020, representing parts of northwest Detroit and Redford Township.
Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, businessman Nassar Beydoun and attorney Zack Burns have also declared their bids for the Democratic nomination. Republicans Michael Hoover and Nikki Snyder are also running for the seat.
Incumbent Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow announced earlier this year that she will not seek re-election in 2024.
