Detroit Today: How Michigan’s House Democrats are legislating as the majority
Michigan House Speaker Pro Tempore Laurie Pohutsky (D-Livonia) joined “Detroit Today” to discuss what her party has accomplished so far.
Michigan politics is moving at a rate that many call unprecedented.
During the first five months of the new legislative session — in which Democrats have a majority in the state legislature for the first time in over 40 years — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has signed 38 bills into law.
These include increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit, adding legal protections for LGBTQ individuals, repealing right-to-work laws, and broadening background checks and registration requirements for firearms and more.
What additional bills have passed the state House? What budget negotiations have occurred and what are the next steps for the Legislature?
Michigan House Speaker Pro Tempore Laurie Pohutsky (D-Livonia) joined Detroit Today to discuss what her party has been able to accomplish so far this year, and what’s still on their agenda.
