Detroit Evening Report: Detroit police commissioners board is still paying two former staffers

Members of Detroit’s police oversight board want to remove two staffers who are no longer working but are still getting paid.

The Board of Police Commissioners’ former interim chief investigator and interim secretary were placed on administrative leave in March and have since been replaced.
Police Commission Chair Quantez Pressley states the board has the authority to fire its workers.
“Both of these employees are being paid for no work, and I believe that it would be the responsible thing to do for the citizens tax dollars as to remove these employees from their positions,” Pressley said.
Pressley’s petition to remove the staffers was blocked by a vote earlier this week.
Detroit’s law department warned keeping the two long-time staffers in temporary positions is in breach of the city charter. Their suspension came as the police commission announced it was the subject of several investigations.
