Without a space in the city to run programming, the organization is continuing its fundraising efforts in support of the development of a new equine education center at the site of the former Paul Robeson Academy in Detroit’s Hope Village neighborhood. The group leased the now vacant space from the Detroit Public Schools Community District in 2019, and recently received a $500,000 grant from the Kresge Foundation to help fund the project.

Today on CultureShift, host Tia Graham spoke with Detroit Horse Power Executive Director David Silver about the difference having their own space will make for the organization, how it will help them serve more young people, and the challenges the group has faced since its inception in 2015.
