Ann Delisi: Detroit Free Press reveals its top 10 new restaurants of 2024
From Ferndale’s Secret Bakery to a taco food truck in Detroit, this year’s list features a wide variety of culinary experiences across the region.

The Detroit Free Press and the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers have unveiled their list of the Top 10 New Restaurants and Dining Experiences of 2024.
I sat down with Detroit Free Press restaurant and dining critic Lindsay Green to talk about the 10 restaurants that made this year’s list and why they were selected.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the media outlet celebrating metro Detroit’s best new restaurants. The list for 2024 features a wide variety eateries. From fine dining experiences like what you’d find at Ferndale’s Coeur (No. 1) to more casual spots like Detroit’s Shell Shock’d Tacos (No. 8) or Tacos Hernandez Food Truck (No. 5), this year’s list encompasses it all.
“This year we had a lot of great restaurants open, but you know, it is our 10th anniversary and so we wanted to find a way to make it really special,” Green said.
The list also included the Secret Bakery in Ferndale — the first bakery to receive the Free Press designation.
“It’s kind of like a speakeasy bakery, which is really fun,” Green said. “[Owner Maxwell Leonard] also kind of welcomes other bakers and small business owners into the space to do pop ups, which is also, you know, fun and a nice way to support the community.”
