Detroit Evening Report: Reparations Task Force invites residents to share stories for the Black Audit Project

The Black Audit Project measures the well-being of Afro-descendant populations and will be used to discuss racial inequality before members of the United Nations.
The Detroit Reparations Task Force is hosting a series of town hall sessions next week for Black residents who want to share their perspectives, opinions and lived experiences with the Black Audit Project.

The Black Audit Project — founded by Howard University law professor Justin Hansford of the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center — aims to explore the well-being of communities’ afro-descendant populations to help measure racial inequality using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The information shared will be used to discuss racial inequality before members of the United Nations. It will also be collected to help the task force determine reparations’ recommendations for the Detroit City Council.
All three events will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 11-13. The town halls will take place at Historic King Solomon Church, 610014th St., Detroit on Monday, March 11; at Alkebulan Village, 7701 Harper Ave., Detroit on Tuesday, March 12; and at Eat at Bert’s, 2727 Russell St., Detroit on March 13.
Dr. Linda Mann, Columbia University professor and co-founder of the African American Redress Network, and Professor Hansford will both speak at the events.
