QLINE: The Official Name of Detroit’s “Modern Streetcar”
Quicken Loans is behind the new name of the M-1 RAIL project.
The long awaited light-rail project on Woodward Avenue now has an official name. It’s QLINE. Jay Farner is the President of Quicken Loans, which has naming rights for the project. He says it was important to incorporate the company’s brand when naming the so-called “modern streetcar”.
“We wanted to come up with a name that had some connection to the “Quicken Loans” brand but was also a name that could help explain the QLINE will be doing for the city of Detroit and really that’s connecting some very important areas of the city.”
Jay Farner, President and Chief Marketing Officer of Quicken Loans
The 6.6 mile loop will connect Downtown Detroit, Midtown, New Center, and the North End. Officials with M-1 RAIL, the organization behind the QLINE, say the $140 million project will be completed by the end of the year with six streetcars in all, each with a capacity of 125 passengers.
