Taking stock of Michigan’s COVID-19 status

COVID-19 spreads more quickly during cold, dry seasons, which is why it spreads so fast in the winter, according to Michigan’s chief medical executive.

COVID-19 cases in Michigan have been steadily falling since January’s peak. That has meant the end to mask mandates across the state, including in its schools.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new masking guidelines relaxing recommendations for the vast majority of Americans, and the State of Michigan has done the same.

“I am okay with dialing down mitigation measures right now because there is less transmission going on in communities, but I just want people to understand that that will change,” says Bagdasarian.

State of Michigan Chief Medical Executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian says Michiganders can relax their COVID-19 restrictions because case rates have fallen so fast and Michigan is currently in a low-risk period.

“I am okay with dialing down mitigation measures right now because there is less transmission going on in communities, but I just want people to understand that, that will change,” says Bagdasarian.
