DTW Sees Increase in Fliers

Metro Airport’s total passengers for 2015 reaches 33 million.

Detroit Metro Airport says passenger traffic increased by one million fliers last year. Total passenger traffic increased eight percent in the first two months of 2016.

Airport spokesperson Erica Donerson says the rising economy is just one factor contributing to a jump in the number of fliers.

“We have new services being offered by the various airlines here at Detroit Metro Airport, and also lower fares,” Donerson says. “And lower fuel costs contribute to lower fares. Also, we’re seeing larger planes flying in and out of DTW.”

Donerson says airlines are also offering more routes for passengers to help maintain growth. She says the airport is adding seven new routes this year, including one to Munich, Germany.
