Detroit Evening Report: GOP candidate Kristina Karamo files lawsuit targeting Detroit’s absentee ballots

Kristina Karamo, Republican candidate for Michigan’s secretary of state office, has filed a lawsuit challenging absentee ballots from Detroit.
Karamo is asking the Wayne County Circuit Court to require Detroit voters to vote in person or be required to show identification to obtain an absentee ballot. The suit names Janice Winfrey and the Detroit Board of Election Inspectors as defendants.
“The court should require all Detroit voters to vote in person or obtain their ballots in person at the clerk’s office,” the lawsuit reads (via The Detroit News). “This is the only valid process of identity in the statute because the MI SOS (Michigan secretary of state) failed to promulgate a signature comparison rule.”
Karamo participated in efforts to challenge Detroit’s results from the 2020 election. Her claims that those results were fraudulent have been proven false.
Michigan voters passed an amendment to the state constitution in 2018 allowing “no-reason” absentee voting.
