Detroit Evening Report: Comerica Hatch Detroit now accepting business pitches for $100,000 award

The Comerica Hatch Detroit Contest is looking for applicants to win $100,000 to open the next brick-and-mortar business in Detroit, Hamtramck or Highland Park.

The Hatch Detroit program application is open for entrepreneurs to submit their business plans for the contest. Community members vote on their favorite business plans and applicants go in front of a panel of judges.
Winners receive money to open their business, as well as accounting, IT, public relations and legal support. The deadline to apply is Feb. 21.
“This community contest helps bring the dream of an aspiring business owner closer to reality and serves as a vital resource for these budding entrepreneurs,” Steve Davis, Comerica Bank Michigan Market President, said in a statement. “Hatch Detroit has left a lasting impact on Detroit’s economic revitalization by bolstering the entrepreneurial spirit, rewarding innovation and promoting small business development. Through our partnership with TechTown, we are proud to assist local entrepreneurs access the capital and technical assistance needed to take their small business to the next level and thrive.”
Previous winners include Little Liberia, Baobab Fare and Sister Pie. Hatch Detroit has invested over $13 million on economic development in the city. The next winner will be announced in late April.
