The Biden administration’s focus on supporting care work across America is under renewed attention after the president announced his bid for re-election earlier this spring.

According to the Congressional Mama’s Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, early care and education providers earn significantly less than a living wage.

Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib joined Detroit Today to discuss how the federal government can make a better effort to close this wealth gap.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib represents Michigan’s 12th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Tlaib is also the founder and current chair of the Congressional Mama’s Caucus. She says Congress must do a better job including mothers in decisions about caregiving legislation affecting them.

“We always hear in the halls of Congress constant conversation about policy about mothers, that impacts mothers, but it’s not done with mothers,” says Tlaib.
