Detroit Today: Rep. Debbie Dingell wants guns under consumer safety laws
Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Ann Arbor) reintroduced legislation to hold gun manufacturers accountable for the products they sell to the public.
While the Michigan Legislature has made strides to pass some gun control regulations, Congress has not been able to do the same.
But some federal lawmakers are still working to keep the public safe from guns.
U.S. House Rep. Debbie Dingell recently proposed allowing the Consumer Product Safety Commission to regulate firearms. Dingell joined Detroit Today to explain why she believes guns should fall under U.S. consumer safety laws.

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell is a Democrat representing Michigan’s 6th District, which includes Ann Arbor. She says firearms manufacturers should be held responsible for ensuring that gun products are safe.
“All I’m saying is, it should be subject to any other rules and laws for safety that consumer products are in the United States,” states Dingell.
