Michigan Future, Inc is a nonpartisan organization and think tank that promotes ideas and policies to benefit the state economy. Their CEO and president Lou Glazer said at a press conference on Monday that they hope to see bills introduced in the Michigan Legislature that would grant tax credits to qualified working parents in the state.
Depending on the age of their child, parents who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) could receive an additional refund if they meet either of the following conditions:
- $5,000 per child for children between the ages of zero and three.
- $2,500 per child for children between the ages of three and six.
As with the EITC, the proposed tax credit would be limited to three children per household.
“Six in ten Michigan jobs don’t pay enough to support a middle class family of three. This is a powerful way of helping those families,” Glazer said.
Supporters of the working parents tax credit program say they hope to see legislation to implement the policy introduced in the coming weeks.
