Ex-Detroit Council President Charles Pugh sentenced to at least 5 1/2 years in prison for having sex with teen.

Former Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Pugh was sentenced to 5 1/2 to 15 years behind bars for having had sex with a teenager when the former Detroit City Council member was in his 30’s.

During his sentencing hearing Pugh apologized to the victim and said he would seek counseling while incarcerated.

Under Pugh’s plea deal he must register as a sex offender and not have unsupervised contact with children.

The deal also includes dropping three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct against Pugh, charges that could have sent him to prison for life.
