Hundreds Gather For Fallen Officer Collin Rose’s Funeral
The K-9 officer was shot and killed last month near Wayne State University’s campus.
Wayne State police officer Collin Rose was laid to rest earlier today. Hundreds of police officers from around the country gathered at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Saint Clair Shores to honor Sergeant Rose. The K-9 officer was shot and killed on duty last month. In remarks made during the funeral service, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said it’s been a challenging time to be in law enforcement. “Over the past 24 hours, several of our officers have been ambushed,” Craig said. “Fortunately they have survived. In the past month and a half, including Sergeant Rose, three loss of American heroes here in the city of Detroit.”
According to Wayne State University Police Chief Anthony Holt, Rose was a cop’s cop. “I hired Collin five years ago, I was there when he was sworn in as a rookie. He became a unique civil servant in every way. As a K-9 officer he was among the best, not just for the university, he worked and trained K-9 officers in Wayne State and other departments around the country. He was simply that good.” Rose was active in the Police Unity Tour, a group of bikers who ride to raise awareness of officers who have died in the line of duty. He is survived by his parents, his brother, and his fiancé.
