Warming Centers Opening During Severe Cold
Detroit is opening warming centers for residents as arctic air hits the city this week.
Detroit has reopened warming centers for those who need to escape the cold this winter.
The facilities are open to all residents, not just the homeless.
Arthur Jemison is the Director of the city’s Housing and Revitalization Department. He advises anyone who needs a warm place to stay, to find their way to a warming center immediately.
“It’s incredibly important we get Detroiters out of the cold so they can be safe. My only suggestion would be to call that person that or family member or relative who you rely on in a situation like this to get you to a facility,” Jemison says.
Centers are located at the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministry two locations and Cass Community Social Services.
Normal hours are from 4:00 PM to 9:00 AM, but will be extended to 24 hours during severe cold temperatures.
